F75184
General Description

F75184 is low-cost USB Dedicated Charger Identification Circuit IC which is so smart to recognize most of the mainstream handheld devices. It allows devices to draw current as much as using as the original adapter. F75184 can support most of the USB Battery Charging Specification world-wide including BC1.2, Apple® charging spec. (for i-Pad & i-Phone) and spec for Samsung Galaxy device. Apple Inc. has upgraded its charger output capacity for tablets to 12W output (maximum 2.4A @ 5V). By setting the USB data pins (D+/D-) to the required voltage levels, the charging devices will recognize their required voltage levels, and starts to draw the suitable current to charge.

F75184 also supports USB high-voltage dedicated charging port (HVDCP) interface IC for the Qualcomm Quick ChargeTM 2.0 specification, and compatible with Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 3.0 Specification. Quick Charge 3.0 employs Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), an algorithm which allows your portable device to determine what power level to request at any point in time, enabling optimum power transfer while maximizing efficiency. It also supports wider voltage options, allowing a mobile device to dynamically adjust to the ideal voltage level supported by that specific device. Specifically, Quick Charge 3.0 offers a more granular range of voltages: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V. That is way your phone can target one of dozens of power levels. F75184 supports the full output voltage range of either Class A or Class B. F75184 automatically detects whether a connected Powered Device is QC 3.0/2.0 capable before enabling output voltage adjustment. If a Powered Device which is not compliant to QC 3.0/2.0 is detected, F75184 would disable the output voltage adjustment to ensure the safe operation with legacy 5V.

F75184 compatible with MediaTek Pump Express™(PE) and Pump Express™ Plus(PE+) version 1.1 and 2.0 communication protocol specifications. F75184 enables power adaptor’s output voltage adjustment if it detects a protocol capable powered device. The FBD pin can be capable of outputting 5V at the beginning, and then 5V to 12V meet requirements each 0.5V for one step of powered device communication protocol with PE+ version 2.0, or 3.6V to 5V meeting requirements each 0.2V for one step with PE or 5V/7V/9V/12V of powered device communication protocol with PE+ version 1.1. If a non-compliant powered device is detected, the controller disables output voltage adjustment to ensure safe operation with smart phones and tablets that support only 5V.

F75184 is a USB Type-C controller that complies with the latest USB Type-C standards, which provides connection and polarity detection of Configuration Channel (CC). It can also be used in many upstream and downstream facing port applications. Through integration of all the required port terminations and threshold comparators required in all the Type-C port types, F75184 provides a platform that can easily supported any of the Type-C port types. F75184 also implements all the required components to detect the Type-C charging current levels as a device and to drive the required CC levels as a host. F75184 supports powering up the Active Cable through external load switches for the un-used CC line.

F75184 supports over voltage protection (OVP) and internal discharge function. When the output voltage exceeds 20% tolerance of the requested voltage after 40us or the discharge function is failed, the FAULT# pin will show the pull down signal for shutting down the external power IC. F75184 also supports over current protection (OCP) by current sense (CS) pin. When the output current exceeds 3.4A, F75184 will reset status and return to default 5V, and the FAULT# pin will show the pull down signal for shutting down the external power IC. The user could light up LED for high voltage protocol such as QC2.0/3.0 could also change QC Class A or Class B and MTK PE+ 2.0 Grade 1 or Grade 2 via CLASS_SEL pin.

F75184 is suitable for all charger products with USB interface. It requires minimum external components, which can reduce develop & production cost dramatically.
