F75210
General Description

The F75210 is low-cost USB Dedicated Charger Identification Circuit IC which is so smart to recognize most of the mainstream handheld devices.  It allows devices to draw current as much as using as the original adapter. The F75210 can support most of the USB Battery Charging Specification world-wide including BC1.2,Hisillicon FCP (Fast Charging Protocol),Apple® charging spec (for i-Pad & i-Phone) and spec for Samsung Galaxy Tab. Apple Inc. has upgraded its charger output capacity for tablets to 12W output (maximum 2.4A @ 5V). By setting the USB data pins (D+/D-) to the required voltage levels, the charging devices will recognize their required voltage levels, and starts to draw the suitable current to charge.

To provide the better application flexibility the F75210 also equipped with a CEN# pin to control peripheral power switch component that is to control the VBUS charging current. 3 digital inputs (CTRL1/2/3) can be found at F75210. Using those 3 inputs to control the different charging modes under S0, S3 and S5, also CDP could be disabled too. In the transmission mode (S0), the F75210 acts as a USB bypass switch which connects the route between the USB Host and the USB Device, and allows the device using CDP mode to charge the handheld devices. In the charger mode (S5), the F75210 can detect the device automatically and provide the correct acknowledge signal to the device that is going to be charged even if the computer system has been shut down. In addition, the F75210 supports low & full speed USB KB mouse (USB 1.1) wake up function from S3 back to S0 stage.

The F75210 also supports USB high-voltage dedicated charging port (HVDCP) interface IC for the Qualcomm Quick ChargeTM 2.0 specification, and also compatible with Qualcomm® Quick ChargeTM 3.0 Specification. Quick Charge 3.0 employs Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV), an algorithm which allows your portable device to determine what power level to request at any point in time, enabling optimum power transfer while maximizing efficiency. It also supports wider voltage options, allowing a mobile device to dynamically adjust to the ideal voltage level supported by that specific device. Specifically, Quick Charge 3.0 offers a more granular range of voltages: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V. That is way your phone can target one of dozens of power levels. The F75210 supports the full output voltage range of either Class A or Class B. The F75210 automatically detects whether a connected Powered Device is QC 3.0/2.0 capable before enabling output voltage adjustment. If a Powered Device which is not compliant to QC 3.0/2.0 is detected the F75210 disables the output voltage adjustment to ensure the safe operation with legacy 5V.

The F75210 is compatible with MediaTek Pump Express™(PE) and Pump Express™ Plus(PE+) version 1.1 and 2.0 communication protocol specifications. The F75210 enables power adaptor’s output voltage adjustment if it detects a protocol capable powered device. The FBD pin can be capable of outputting 5V at the beginning, and then 5V to 12V meeting requirements each 0.5V for one step of powered device communication protocol with PE+ version 2.0, or 3.6V to 5V meeting requirements each 0.2V for one step with PE or 5V/7V/9V/12V of powered device communication protocol with PE+ version 1.1. If a non compliant powered device is detected, the controller disables output voltage adjustment to ensure safe operation with smart phones and tablets that support only 5V.

The F75210 supports CLASS_SEL Pin to select QC3.0/2.0 Specification Class A (default) or Class B. The F75210 supports over voltage protection (OVP) and internal discharge function. When the output voltage exceeds 20% tolerance of the requested voltage after 40us or the discharge function is failed, the FAULT# pin will show the pull down signal for shutting down the external power IC. The F75210 also supports over current protection (OCP) by current sense (CS) pin. When the output current exceeds 3.4A after a period of time, the F75210 will reset status and return to default 5V, and the FAULT# pin will show the pull down signal for shutting down the external power IC. The user could light up LED for high voltage protocol such as QC2.0/3.0 & FCP and could also change QC Class A or Class B via CLASS_SEL pin.

The I2C protocol is detected automatically. The I2C address could be 0x5A. The chip could be disabled via changing the related register by enabling I2C.The cable compensation function (1 LSB =200mV) is enabled via changing the related register by enabling I2C too.

The F75210 is suitable for all charger products with USB interface. It provides enhanced ESD protection up to ±8KV on the DP and DM with the QFN-16 package. It requires minimum external components, which can reduce develop & production cost dramatically.
